Timor-Leste and Cambodia Collaborate on Agricultural Cooperation through Rice Purchase

Phnom Penh: Timor-Leste has signed an agreement to buy 4,000 tons of rice from Cambodia for the first time after the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on rice trade on October 20, 2022.

Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Timor-Leste signed a contract to buy 4,000 tons of rice from Cambodia for the first time under the state mechanism after the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on rice trade on October 20, 2022, between the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste.

The signing ceremony took place during a working meeting between Chan Sok Ty, Royal Government of Cambodia Delegate in charge of the President of Green Trade Company of the Ministry of Commerce, High Representative CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and the delegation from Timor-Leste, led by Mr. Anibal Carvalho Muniz, Senior Representative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Timor-Leste and colleagues from the National Logistic Center (CLN), as well as the presence of the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Cambodia Mr. Ermenegildo Kupa Lopes.

The meeting aimed to explore the potential for rice trade cooperation between Green Trade Company and negotiate technical terms for export to Timor-Leste.

The Royal Government of Cambodia also confirmed that this is to open more new markets for Cambodia in the rice sector, and the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia will continue to seek new markets in this field.
